The duality between ‘fish and chips’ and the indigenous woman reinforces this concept of two cultures with a certain satirical element.

Using racially directed personal experiences, here I experimented with using direct quotes against my artwork.

There is a British colonialist aspect in this piece between the contrast in antiquated historical clothing and the indigenous elements and iconography, emphasising being in between two cultures as an immigrant.

This drawing is based on my sister, displaying ‘new beginnings’. The action of immigrating suggests a sense of new belonging, except this feeling never comes.

I took this idea of natural family environments and contrasted them against multiple direct quotes from personal experiences, presenting the impact racist attitudes have to young immigrants.
